I walked into that building alone…then I met all of you.

There are no words to express the sorrow I felt last week when I had to say good bye to my beloved Dooley. I always figured when the time came, we would be with family and familiar people at our own veterinary office. Then, on the worst night of my life, I pulled into the parking lot and turned over my dog to a couple of strangers as they got him out of the car and wheeled him away on a gurney. I walked into that building alone…then I met all of you. You didn’t know me or Dooley. You didn’t know how unique and special he was. I’m pretty sure you could tell how much I loved him by all the sobbing, tears, and bargaining I tried to do to save my dog. While there was nothing you could do to take away my pain, your gentle voices, kind words, and teary eyes provided me great comfort. You gave me the space to honor, love and grieve my baby. I am forever grateful for the compassion you showed me and Dooley. He was in good hands during his last hours. From the bottom of my broken heart, I thank you all for choosing to go into emergency veterinary work. It can’t be an easy job but please know what a difference you make every day.Dooley
