Dr. Austel graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University, Munich, Germany in 1992. Between 1992 and 2001 she was staff veterinarian and lectured on equine and small animal internal medicine at the university’s teaching hospital. In 1997 Dr. Austel shifted her clinical research and teaching focus to dermatology.
In 2001 she moved to the United States to participate in a residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Georgia, Athens, GA. Her residency research project about feline allergy testing was awarded first place in clinical research by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2003. Following her residency she remained at UGA for another seven years as an assistant professor for veterinary dermatology. Dr. Austel joined IVG in May 2011. Dr. Austel is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and is experienced in small animal, equine, farm animal, pocket pet and exotics dermatology.
