Amie Hesbach received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy (1997) from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (1995) from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Ms. Hesbach completed a residency in Neuro-rehabilitation (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) at the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center of Vallejo, California in 2000. She has been involved in the evolving field of Animal Physical Therapy since 2001 and has a special clinical interest in sports medicine, manual therapy and neuro-rehabilitation.
In June 2003, Ms. Hesbach became certified as a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee. In 2005, she became certified as a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, affiliated with Colorado State University.
Amie is the president of the Animal Rehabilitation Special Interest Group which is part of the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, a member of the American Canine Sports Medicine Association (ACSMA), International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy (IAVRPT), and International Academy of Veterinary Pain Management (IAVPM). In addition to speaking in the United States, United Kingdom and Japan on Animal Physical Therapy, she is on the faculty of the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. As a Certified Clinical Instructor, Ms. Hesbach has supervised externships for both physical therapy and veterinary students. She has also published in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Practice, Clinical Techniques in Small Animal Practice, Wizard of Paws, AblePet, and the Journal of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT).
Prior to joining Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in April 2010, Ms. Hesbach was the Director of Rehabilitation at Next Step Animal Rehabilitation and Fitness in Huntingtown, Maryland.
