Ensuring the health and safety of your breeding female and her new litter from insemination to birth, to nursing and beyond, is at the root of all of the services provided by the theriogenology service at Bulger Veterinary Hospital. While natural insemination and birth are ideal, neither is always the norm; every animal and every pregnancy is unique. Consider working with a team of medical professionals trained and skilled in all aspects of your bitch or queen’s reproductive health when the time comes to breed them for the first, or even the last time.
Reproductive management of breeding animals can be a challenging field. At Bulger we recognize the value of collaborating with you to ensure the best possible care is provided to your pet.

Breeding: Timing, Insemination & Infertility
Breeding timing for the bitch
- Vaginal cytology

Artificial insemination of the bitch
- Collecting the fresh semen from the male and directly inseminating the bitch vaginally
- Fresh cooled or frozen semen warming and insemination of the bitch vaginally or surgically, and soon, transcervially (spring 2011).

Breeding timing solutions

Pregnancy Management
- Palpation at about day 20.
- Ultrasound at day 30.
