Capital District and IVG Hospitals: Dedicated to Continuing our Legacy as a Trusted Resource for Pet OwnersJune 05, 2015

Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital

WOBURN, MA and LATHAM, NY, June 5, 2015 – The teams at IVG Hospitals and Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic are pleased to announce that our two organizations are joining forces. Together, we will work towards expanding veterinary services for pet owners in the Capital District and the surrounding towns. Located at 222 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, NY, Capital District will be the first IVG Hospital in New York and the sixth 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital for IVG overall.

Under IVG Hospitals’ ownership, Capital District will be renamed to Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital to reflect the shift in the types of services we will be providing to the pet owning community. Most notably for pet owners in the region, our first order of business will be to expand emergency services from nights and weekends to 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. We have already begun the process of adding new emergency doctors, critical care doctors, veterinary technicians and team members.

In addition to expanding emergency services, we are committed to also adding board certified specialty departments to the team. We are actively seeking surgeons, an internist and ophthalmologist at this time.
“We are very excited about the potential IVG Hospitals brings to our hospital, team and for pet owners locally” said Rosemary Burke Hospital Director for Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital.

Standards of care in veterinary medicine have kept pace with those available to people, as attitudes towards our animal companions have changed. Today, general practitioner veterinarians rely on the advanced diagnostic modalities, treatment options, and 24 hour monitoring provided by specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals. While a pet may be referred to an emergency/specialty hospital for diagnosis and a treatment plan, many pet owners will continue to manage their pet’s ongoingIMG_1513 treatment and care through their family veterinarian. For this reason, “some of the most rewarding medical relationships are characterized by open lines of communication between the pet owners, emergency practitioners and their family vets,” said G. Ames Prentiss, CEO of IVG Hospitals, Inc. He went on to say: “At IVG we are excited by the prospect of becoming members of the community in greater Albany and Latham; we are dedicated to earning the trust of area veterinarians and pet owners and expanding upon Capital District’s legacy as a resource for compassionate, advanced veterinary medical care.” For more information, please visit our website.
